Why Do Kids Need To Go To Summer Camp
Today’s teenagers and pre-teens have grown up in a world driven by technology, social media, and non-direct communication (texts, tweets, posts, emails, and the list goes on and on…). It’s scary to think that most kids spend more time on social media than in face-to-face conversations with their peers. Overnight camp is a great way for kids to unplug and see what’s really out there in the world! They will meet new and different people from all over the country and from countries all over the world. They will gain self-esteem by accomplishing tasks they’ve never tried before. They will experience nature in an exciting and adventurous way and become more independent by spending time away from their parents (who, by the way, should also enjoy a break this summer!) Your teenager may even become a leader among his/her new friends! We’ve seen even the most timid kids shine at camp. It’s a place where there are no pre-conceived reputations– it creates a feeling of a fresh start and an opportunity to re-invent oneself.
Overnight campers make long-lasting memories and a new set of friends that stay in touch for years to come (thanks to that social media mentioned earlier). Your kids will be more active at camp where there are no video games, TV, or app stores. They may even learn to love the outdoor adventures and stay active the whole year through. Overnight camps provide physical, emotional, and social benefits that today’s teenagers desperately need! Not to mention, it give parents the break that they desperately need!
